Senior Marketing and Community manager

Ebony, charlesWhat’s 1 conversation that changed your life?

Great question! I recently saw two of my closest friends (after ten years!) and we had a talk about what we’ve learned. Our lives are different, but the lessons were the same. The journey for each of us was different, yet we all arrived at the same destination. We have a newfound respect for each other and how we show up for different relationships.

Is there 1 you wish you never had?

I recall a talk with a previous boss where I was very open and honest about what I was feeling and struggling with. I walked away from that role doubting myself and viewing leadership in a different light. I do not shy away from vulnerability, but this interaction really made me rethink sharing so much with just anyone.

Proudest achievement in your career?

I think the proudest moment in my career has to be mentoring and helping those I hired get promoted!

In life?

My biggest achievement in life, to date, has to be fully seeing myself. I think we all show up in different ways expecting others to see us in ways we do not see ourselves and are usually disappointed. I am doing a lot of introspection and listening to myself. In knowing who I am, I can also create space for others to show up as who they really are and not who I expect them to be.

What do you do when you’re not here?

Travel!! I have an insatiable wanderlust that I perpetually feed into. I have recently gotten back into sports and love that charles supports healthy living. I am a bit of a homebody, so cuddling my cats, talking to my plants, and cooking is usually what I am doing.

Favourite Berlin restaurants?

Betje-Ethiopia
Häppies
Umami

Why did you want to join charles?

The simplest thing. When I researched the company, it evoked happiness. I knew I would thrive here and enjoy working with the team.

How was the interview process?

At first, I thought it would be another tedious process. Endless calls and emails. Nay nay. I had a wonderful first call with Umal, the case study was (shocking) fun to do, and during the on-site everyone was very welcoming. It was a smooth process.

What sticks in your mind about the onboarding?

Charles takes GDPR very seriously!

How do you feel after one month here? Same/different/first impressions?

Joining during the most festive time of year has its pros and cons. It is clear I have joined a very ambitious and jovial team. I am still getting settled within my role. My impressions are unchanged after one month.

Why did you want to join charles?

The company culture alongside the opportunities and work I would be doing was what drew me to charles.

How was the interview process?

Very good, extremely expedient and no messing around, I already felt like a part of charles by the end of the process.

How do you feel after one month here? Same/different/first impressions?

It was a bit of a challenge at first, with not much prepared work and the product owner on holiday (I joined in summer). On the other hand the work I'm doing is very interesting.

3 bits of advice for someone doing the same job as you?

  1. Enjoy it, figure out what you want to do and do it
  2. Always be looking to grow
  3. Enjoy yourself. Work is there to enable you to do the things in life you want to, but also a happy employee is a productive employee 🤖

What’s your personal mission for your role in the next year?

To bring charles into a new world of data-driven decisions.
